The Bengal tiger has been associated with Cincinnati football since 1937 and the so-called second American Football League which folded at the end of that season. Those Cincinnati Bengals emerged in the third American Football League in 1941 before that league too collapsed. However, that team did inspire the name of our current pro football franchise, which began play in 1968.
